Ces lecteurs permettent l'utilisation d'une carte mémoire SD comme disque dur sur un Atari muni d'un port DMA/ACSI.

Commençons par l'Ultrasatan:

  • Double lecteur de carte SD
  • Boitier de protection
  • Interrupteur
Those drives allow the use of SD memory cards as hard drives on a Atari with DMA/ACSI port.

Let's start with the Ultrasatan:

  • Double SD card reader
  • Boxed
  • ON/OFF switch


Un bon taux de transfert, 1000 Ko/s. Nous sommes bien au dessus des disques durs de première génération type Megafile ou SH fabriqués par Atari. Par contre, on peut obtenir ce taux avec un disque dur SCSI et une interface type "Link II".
A good transfert rate, 1000 KB/s. This is much better than the original Megafile or SH hard drives provided by Atari. However, this can be easely acheived with a standard SCSI drive through a "Link II" interface.




Quick index donne un indice de 571% pour la lecture DMA de blocks de 64Ko.

Lecture d'une animation QuickTime avec MP_STE, l'animation devrait tourner normalement en 15 img/sec et on arrive péniblement à 2,1.
Quick Time animation performance with MP_STE, the normal should be 15 img/s, but we hardly get to 2,1.
Lorsque l'animation est convertie en FLM, on atteint le taux normal! L'UltraSatan donne donc la possibilité à un STE de voir une animation en temps réel.
When turned to a FLM file, the same animation reaches its normal frame rate. So the UltraSatan gives you the ability to view animations with sound on your STE.
Dernier test dans lequel j'ai retiré la synchronisation, les images passent donc à vitesse maximale. On se rend compte qu'il y a de la réserve puisque le taux atteint les 20,8 img/s.
Last test, I have disabled synchronization, the images are displayed at full speed. This shows that more power is available as the frame rate goes up to 20,8 img/s.




Continuons avec le Super Satan Disk:
  • Un seul lecteur SD
  • pas de boitier
  • pas d'interrupteur
Son avantage est qu'il était livré avec son alimentation, une carte SD prête et un DVD rempli d'utilitaires.

A good thing was that it came with its power supply, a SD card ready to use and a DVD full of tools.
Quick index donne un indice de 73%, moins qu'un périphérique standard!. L'utilitaire ICD ne fonctionnant pas avec ce lecteur, on peut estimer le taux de transfert à 128 Ko/s. Ce qui est faible!
Quick Index gives an index of 73%, less than a standard drive! As the ICD disk performance software doesn't work with this drive, we can estimate its transfert rate at about 128 KB/s. This is not much!
Le même test avec l'animation Quick Time montre que le nombre d'images descend à 1,9 par seconde. On voit que le disque a peu d'impact sur cette performance qui doit être essentiellement dûe à la difficulté de la décompression Cinepak et de la transformation ensuite en 4 plans 16 gris Atari.
The same test with the QuickTime animation shows that the frame rate lowers to 1,9 per second. We can notice that the drive has little influence on the performance that essentially consists of a heavy Cinepak uncompression and the conversion to 16 greys in a four planes Atari mode.
Par contre, avec le film en FLM optimisé pour l'atari, sans synchronisation, le disque reprend son importance puisque qu'on ne dépasse pas 10 img/s alors que le taux normal est de 15!
However, with the FLM (optimized for Atari) version, without synchronization, the drive gets back its influence as the computer can't reach 10 img/s, far under the necessary 15 img/s.
Autres infos:

L'Ultrasatan peut se brancher en chaine avec d'autres périphériques, j'ai testé en particulier le lecteur CD Atari CDAR. Aucun problème de cohabitation. Ceci fut impossible avec le lecteur Super Satan Disk.
Other infos:

The Ultrasatan can be chained with other DMA peripherials. I tested the Atari CD ROM drive CDAR. No problem! This was impossible with the Super Satan Disk.
